A love song to the Divine Mother. May her presence awaken within us all. 

Jaya – victory to, or praise, hallelujah!

Bhavani – the Divine Mother (Ma). Shakti (the divine feminine energy, the counterpart to Shiva – the divine masculine consciousness) in the form of the creator. The one that brings all things into existance.

Amba – mother.

Jai Durga Ma, Jagatambe Bhavani

Durga – Shakti manifest in the form of a fierce warrior Goddess.

Jagetambe – mother of the world.

Honor & praise to Shakti, divine energy, the divine feminine – the Holy Mother. Shakti is manifest reality (whereas Shiva, the masculine counterpart is the unmanifest).

Durga Ma, Parvati

Honor & praise to the forms of the supreme Goddess, in her fierce forms, and her domestic, nurturing form.

Durga – the fierce aspect of Shakti. The energy of the mother who would do anything to protect her children. Durga destroys negetive aspects of human nature such as selfishness, jealousy, prejudice, hatred, anger, and ego.

Parvati – the domestic aspect of Shakti, Lord Siva’s consort in the serene aspects. 

Kali – the most terrifying aspect of the Goddess. She was created by Durga (or transformed from the form of Durga) to vanquish demons (which represent aspects of our ego).

Victory to the Mother of the world.

 

4. REFUGE

Lord Krishna is my shelter, or, I take refuge in Lord Krishna.

Krishna – He who is all-attractive, the source of all pleasure. An incarnation (avatar) of Lord Vishnu, the preserver.

Radhe Radhe Shyam, Radhe Shyam, Radhe Shyam

Radhe – addressive case of Radha (“O Radha!”), the beloved of Krishna, the embodiment of spiritual love and the Goddess of the universe.

Govinda – a name for the youthful Krishna, the lord of the cows and the Vedas, the one who pleases the senses.

Gopal – shortened form of Gopala, Krishna as a mischevious todler.

Shyam – a name for Krishna referring to his dark black/blue skin

Hare – a name for Radhe, the energy of God (divine feminine).

We worship the three-eyed one (Lord Shiva) who is fragrant (in a state of supreme bliss), and who sustains all living beings. May he liberate us from (the eternal cycle of birth and) death. May he lead us to immortality, just as the cucumber is released from its bondage (the vine to which it is attached).”

Shivaya or Shiva – the destroyer that clears the path for new growth, the energy of change. Also means the supreme reality, divine consciousness that dwells in all, your true identity, your inner Self.

Hari – A name of Krishna as an incarnation of Vishnu. Also means shining one and thief, taking away material suffering. God steals our illusions, burdens and ultimately our hearts.

Bol or Bolo – to sing or chant (the names of God), invoking divine resonance & presence. 

Shyam – Krishna, referring to his dark skin.
